So what you sayin'?

No. . .like seriously. . .so what you sayin'?

Words. They have such power don't they? Power to uplift. Power to tear down. Power to create. Power to destroy. Power to grow. Power to shrink. Such seemingly inconsequential little things they are--but when used a certain way, can hit a target with the precision of a sniper. Whether that is the intention or not.

So. . .today I am just thinking about words. In their written form, in their spoken form. . .  crooned against a melody or rhythmically placed into some iambic pentameter. I'm thinking of the pivotal ones I've heard and the ones I've spoken. The words that I felt proud to have said and the ones I continuously wish I never thought to utter. And the older I get, the more I think about how mighty a sword our words can be. Or potent a catalyst.

Yeah.

Nope. Nothing bad has happened. No awkward misunderstandings or anything at all. Actually, I happened to catch this clip of Kevin Durant giving his 2014 NBA MVP speech. And me? I'm no real NBA fan.  As of last year, I had absolutely no idea what OKC even was. But let me tell you--that speech he gave? Just. . .wow. Talk about somebody being a responsible steward of his words. I wept several times while watching it and can't imagine how the real, true fans must have felt.

Or his mother.

So to quote Zachary Manning (who has very little patience for nonsense discussions)-- I'll just say this:

"What are you even talking about?"

In other words. . .what are you doing with your words? That's what I'm thinking about today.

So what you sayin'?

Happy Wednesday.

A clip of the Kevin Durant speech. I highly recommend searching for and watching the entire thing, though. But with a box of tissue handy--especially if you're a mom.

And this--now playing on my mental iPod. . .sorry to those who can't stand old school hip hop. . .ha ha. . .hey-- the mental iPod doesn't discriminate. What can I say? I grew up on this stuff. So what cha sayin?
