Baby boy.

If everyone in the world
Could give me what I wanted
I wouldn't want for more than I have
I couldn't love you more if I tried

This is you, my baby boy. Yes. This is you.

It amazes me that I once feared that my heart couldn't love a second child as much as the first. But I was wrong. So very wrong. The heart makes room. Yes, it does.

This morning I looked at you laughing in the hallway still in your pajamas. Breakdancing, pop-locking and singing with your raspy, crackling voice at the top of your lungs. No shame in your game. Nope, not you. Never that. I looked at you and thought, "Wow. I couldn't love you more if I tried."

No, I could not. But don't worry because I'll keep trying to every single day.

Happy sixth birthday, baby boy. Guess I'll go and read your birth story again in honor of your special day.

Now playing. . . .

  3. Aw. I just went and read that birth story. Here's what I think you maybe realized that day- you are far stronger than you think you are. And then, as soon as that beautiful, impatient boy was born, you realized how unlimited the human heart is.
It's the second child who brings that lesson.
Happy day Mama and what a blessed child he is to be born into the arms of you and your family.

  4. Happy birthday to your wonderful beloved boy!

And you made me remember that when I first learned I was pregnant with my second child, I went into my son's room and stood over him sleeping in his crib and I cried, because I was so sure that I could never love another child as powerfully and completely and I love him. And then my daughter came. And I learned what I supposed all mothers of more than one child learn, the heart makes room, love blooms to fill the whole world.

hugs, mama. your boys are such amazing humans, so much light in them. they are so loved.

  5. You Grandmother Mudear (mother of 11!) always said, "The heart makes room." As a mother of 4, I know that is true. Happy Birthday, Big Boy Zakky!
