5 PM. After rounds today. Looking up the answers to the many, many clinical questions I had.
And still have.
That I don't or didn't know the answer to.
Don't believe what they tell you. No one ever knows everything.
Ever.
Medical school lasts forever. Believe that.

I remember, at age 21, telling the interviewers that I wanted to go to medical school and become a physician because a career in medicine promised life-long learning. I'm still in it for that reason. But I've learned since then that life-long learning is a result of life-long not-knowing, of always having questions...

The opportunity to learn for a lifetime has always been a significant factor in my interest in medicine!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Lord does it EVER. Does.it.ever. As you well know, some of the lessons we learn are the hardest-because it counts and it counts for real if you are not up to par. In this business, luck is not going to get you but so far...at the end of the day you had better be GOOD-and sometimes even that's not enough.
