Good to the last drop.

It's early in the morning and I am sitting at my kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee. On most days, I don't fully get the coffee-making right. It's either too strong or too weak or too much or not enough. . . . but that never seems to stop me from enjoying it. Every blue moon, though, I get it just right.  It's not as big a deal as you'd think, though, because I generally enjoy those other cups all the same.

Life is kind of like that for me.  On most days I either put too much into it or not enough.  It could use a bit of a tweak here or there but I make a decision to enjoy it.  The warm parts of it, the comforts of it, and the whimsy, too. Kind of like the way I'm smiling at this Christmas Snoopy mug.  Yeah, like that.

Sometimes it has a bite and can be a bit bitter. But generally I can find enough cream to take the edge off of it. Or even some sweetener. Or I just decide to focus on some other aspect of it and find enjoyment in it anyway.

So this morning and every morning, I've made a decision to savor the cup in front of me. The one that includes Harry's love and my kids' laughter. The one that has the Grady elders and relationships with the residents and medical students. It has my mother--my amazing mother--and my father, too. It's a wonderful cup I tell you.

Yeah. So instead of lamenting about how Dunkin' Donuts is better than Folgers or how much tastier it is when you grind your own beans, I just close my eyes and enjoy what I have.

Because what I have? It's wonderful.

Happy Monday.

  3. Grateful is a word and a living action that I am saying a lot of. So many have so much less than should be. Appreciate rings in as well.

The coffee....yes, I try hard to fix that one cup, my latte, just the way I like.

  6. Great post! I commented yesterday and couldn't get it to go through because I've been technically challenged this week; must be because Ingles stopped carrying Duncan Donuts coffee in our area. I've posted a couple new posts, I think you might like the one about football :) Come see me!

  8. It's funny how much the small things count, and count they do. I find the best cup of tea or coffee is always the first one in the day, before there's time for comparisons.
